Home and family
Woody and Debi's principal home is in Mount Pleasant, where they have lived for twenty-three years. They also keep a home in Spartanburg, Debi's hometown — two very different corners of the same state.
They are grandparents of seven, and treasure the regular time they spend with their three youngest grandchildren, who live close by. Whether playing together, encouraging them from the sidelines, or simply enjoying the privilege of watching them grow, family keeps much of what matters very close at hand.

Woody's perspective has been shaped through decades of building businesses, employing people and working in markets far beyond the state.
He has built a distinguished career in the insurance industry, becoming a recognized expert in captive insurance creation, risk management and international reinsurance markets. His work crosses state and national borders and multiple insurance jurisdictions, helping businesses understand, manage and finance risk.
His businesses employ people in Mount Pleasant and across the state. That combination — local responsibility and international experience — has shaped the way he thinks about the decisions facing us here.
South Carolina is home. But South Carolina does not exist in isolation.

Looking up.
For Woody, faith is not something reserved for Sunday — nor something added to a résumé. It shapes how he thinks about responsibility, relationships, leadership and service.
He is actively involved in the relationships surrounding the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, and takes part in Issachar gatherings that bring together leaders from different countries, professions and walks of life for candid conversation, friendship and prayer.
Those experiences reinforce an understanding of leadership rooted not simply in ambition, but in stewardship.

Woody's international perspective did not begin in politics. It was built through business.
A career serving international markets and working across different insurance and reinsurance jurisdictions taught him that events which appear distant rarely remain distant forever.
But the purpose of looking outward is not to become less interested in South Carolina. It is to understand more clearly what may be coming toward it.
Trade. Investment. Insurance. Energy. Supply chains. National security. And, all too often in South Carolina, storms. The wider world has a way of arriving at home.
Woody believes South Carolina benefits when people who know their communities also understand the wider world in which those communities must compete.
